ERASMUS+ BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAM ”LIMINAL SPACES OF LIVING”

G. M. Cantacuzino Faculty of Architecture and Vice-Rectorate for International Relations organize Erasmus+ BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAM, ”LIMINAL SPACES OF LIVING”, between 5th-12th September 2023 (online) | 25th -29th September 2023 (physical).

Partners: Hochschule Karlsruhe, University of Thessaly, Lublin University of Technology, ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Universitario de Lisboa), Universidade Lusófona do Porto (COFAC), Ondokuz Mayıs University.

The aim of our project, “Liminal Spaces of Living,” is to investigate the transformative potential inherent in urban fractures and neglected terrains within cities. We seek to challenge conventional urban planning paradigms by exploring the multifaceted layers of these spaces, inspired by Henri Lefebvre’s vision of “experimental utopia.” Our goal is to shed light on the significance of everyday life in shaping the city, emphasizing the dynamic interplay between individuals and the urban environment. Through this exploration, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the intricate relationships between “I” and “Other” within the cityscape and, ultimately, contribute to reimagining and revitalizing urban spaces for a more inclusive and vibrant future.

This project, “Liminal Spaces of Living,” offers an engaging and transformative learning experience designed for students pursuing architecture at both the bachelor and master’s levels. By participating in this project, students will have the unique opportunity to:
– Challenge Conventions: Explore unconventional and neglected urban spaces, breaking free from traditional architectural norms to foster innovative thinking.
– Bridge Theory and Practice: Apply theoretical concepts, inspired by the works of Henri Lefebvre and Thierry Paquot, to real-world urban environments, gaining hands-on experience that bridges theory and practice.
– Foster Interdisciplinary Perspectives: Collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, including anthropology, sociology, and urban studies, to gain a holistic understanding of how cities and their inhabitants coexist and evolve.
– Unearth Hidden Potential: Investigate the untapped potential of liminal spaces, discovering how architecture can play a transformative role in these urban contexts without imposing authority.
– Shape the Cities of Tomorrow: Contribute to reimagining urban landscapes, making them more inclusive, dynamic, and responsive to the needs and experiences of their inhabitants.
Joining this exploration of the urban realm allows students to expand their architectural horizons, challenge preconceptions, and play a vital role in shaping the future of our cities.
